Being resistant means refusing to accept change, advice, or help, even when it could be beneficial. While it’s important to stand firm on our values, being overly stubborn can stop us from learning, growing, and solving problems.
In school, Arjun was known for being stubborn. During group projects, he refused to listen to his teammates’ ideas. “My way is the best way,” he would always say.
One day, his group was assigned a science project, and Arjun insisted on doing things his way. But when they presented their project, it didnโt turn out as well as the others, and they didnโt get a good grade.
The teacher spoke to Arjun,
“Being resistant to others’ ideas can hold you back. Working together and listening to everyone makes the team stronger.”
At home, Leela resisted any changes her parents suggested. Whether it was trying new foods or studying a different way, she would always say, “I don’t want to!” Her parents were worried because her stubbornness was stopping her from exploring new experiences.
One day, her mother said,
“Leela, trying new things helps you grow. Being too resistant means you miss out on opportunities.”
In theย Panchatantra, thereโs a story about a river and a tree. The tree refused to bend with the strong winds, thinking it could withstand any storm. But when a big storm came, the tree broke because of its resistance, while the river, which flowed and adapted, continued its journey. The tree learned that being too stubborn can lead to failure, while flexibility brings survival and growth.
“Those who adapt and change with the times, flourish; those who resist are left behind.”
